An (not quite recent) overview of existing artifical neural network initiatives can be found in 'Artificial neural networks technology' (a DACS state of the art report by Anderson and McNeill, 1992).

In principle, a more comprehensive classification should include neural network hypercycles of biotic origin and neural network hypercycles of memic origin.
